The Melbourne hailstorm does appear to be unprecedented for Victoria in delivering gorilla sized hailstones. Hailstones up to 10cm diameter were reported by a Bureau observer south east of the CBD. The rain certainly spread to SE QLD and NE NSW since yesterday. The heaviest falls have focused on the Bellingen Valley with totals around 400mm at a couple of places.
